Product Update – January 2011

Because one size does not fit all...

This message was the driving force behind the development of our new Flexitouch EXT system for the lower extremity. When you, our clinicians, identified the need for a Flexitouch system that would fit the extra large patient population, we set our engineers to work. The result is a redesigned garment made to fit patients with extreme lower extremity edema.

The Flexitouch EXT is made of the same soft stretchable fabric and utilizes the same controller. However, the trunk garment now measures 28” wider and 2” taller, the thigh is 14” wider and the calf is 12” wider than our current garment set. Quite simply, the new extended dimensions allow for better overall coverage, thereby delivering therapy more effectively.

Custom Features
In addition, there are now 4-inch slits between the hook fasteners, enabling the patient to contour the garment to their anatomy. And because the hose is now attached to the trunk-thigh garment at the hips, it is easier to both reach the hose and to don the garment. This feature alone has been applauded by clinicians and patients. Because we’ve incorporated the EXT sizing option into the current controller, all you have to do is select the correct garment size before beginning a treatment session. Select EXT sizing and the same great therapy will be delivered to the patient.

Mix and Match Sizing Options
One more noteworthy change is that our new sizing allows you to mix and match lower extremity garments. If, for example, your patient needs an EXT for the trunk-thigh area but a regular size for the calf-foot you can order the appropriate sizes - they are smartly designed to work together.

We are pleased to bring this fitting innovation to you, enabling you to help more people improve their quality of life through effective home treatment.

Latest Research – December 2010

Advanced Pneumatic Therapy in Self-Care of Chronic Lymphedema of the Trunk

A team from Vanderbilt University, led by Sheila H. Ridner, recently published a clinical study in the journal Lymphatic Research and Biology.

The purpose of the study was to examine the potential efficacy of the Flexitouch system as a component of self-care in breast cancer survivors with truncal lymphedema.

The findings indicate that:
1) Breast cancer survivors with truncal lymphedema may benefit from using the Flexitouch system as a part of their self-care program.
2) The Flexitouch system had a statistically significant improvement on symptom relief.
3) Patient acceptance and compliance of the Flexitouch therapy was high making this a valuable tool for home management of truncal edema.
