Tips for Proper Patient Positioning
  1. For lower extremities:
    1. Apply a stockinette over the leg and foot before applying the garments.
    2. Smooth the fabric out over the limb to avoid folds or fabric bunching.
    3. Avoid gaps at the knee between the calf-foot garment and trunk-thigh garment.
    4. Snugly contour the garments around bottleneck areas such as the ankle, knee and groin.
    5. Elevate the calf and foot of the affected leg approximately five inches above hip level using a pillow or other comfortable support.
    6. Use a pillow at the end of the toe area to support the tubing harness as needed.
  2. For upper extremities:
    1. Apply a stockinette over the arm and hand before applying the garments.
    2. Smooth the fabric out over the limb to avoid folds or fabric bunching.
    3. Snugly contour the garments around bottleneck areas such as the wrist, elbow and underarm area.
    4. Keep the arm close to the trunk (at approximately a 45 degree angle) to prevent a gap between chest and arm garments at the underarm.
  3. The head can be slightly elevated; however, the neck should not be hyperextended or hyperflexed or it may interfere with lymphatic flow.

  4. The patient should remain lying down (supine) throughout the treatment session. (If the patient needs to interrupt the session, press PAUSE to stop the program.) The session will stop automatically when the program is completed.

Therapy Tips for Patients
  • Avoid eating a full meal immediately before the treatment session.
  • Wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothes, such as scrubs or pajamas.
  • Use the restroom before treatment to avoid interrupting the session. (Sessions last approximately one hour.)
  • Find a comfortable place to lie down, such as a bed or couch.
  • Avoid sitting up or standing once treatment has begun.
  • Breathe deeply throughout the session.
  • Feel free to watch TV, listen to music, talk on the phone or just relax.
