Questions Frequently Asked by Patients (Non-Medicare Patients)

Q: Does insurance cover the Flexitouch system?
Yes. Most insurance companies do cover pneumatic devices like Flexitouch when the patient meets specific clinical criteria which generally include the following:

  • The patient is unable to manage lymphedema at home with exercise, limb elevation and use of compression bandage or garments.
  • Other products have been ineffective or are not tolerated.
  • More effective home therapy is required to manage lymphedema.

Q: Once my insurance company has approved coverage, when will I receive the Flexitouch system?
As soon as we receive approval from your insurance, we contact you to arrange shipment of your Flexitouch system.

Q: Will I receive training on how to use the Flexitouch system?
Yes. Shortly after we ship the system, you will be contacted by a clinician to schedule in-home training at your convenience. The system also includes a training video (VHS or DVD) and an instructions for use manual to help familiarize you with the Flexitouch system. Upon receipt of a Flexitouch system, a certified Flexitouch trainer will contact you and offer set-up and training on the Flexitouch system in your home. It is helpful to have the caregivers and/or spouse present at the in-home training session so that all become familiar with proper device operation, appropriate patient positioning, and optimal treatment tips to maximize therapeutic benefit of Flexitouch treatment.

Q: What if my insurance company denies coverage?
If your insurance company denies coverage, we will contact you to discuss appeal options. If you wish to appeal we will gather additional information and proceed with the appeal process. A successful appeal depends on your cooperation so it is important that you return phone calls promptly, provide us with accurate information, and work with your clinicians as necessary to obtain documentation.
