History
Tactile Systems Technology was founded in 1995 by a certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) therapist dedicated to finding an effective way to treat lymphedema at home. After six years in development, Tactile Systems launched the Flexitouch system, an innovative, patented medical device based on the principles of MLD therapy. With clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002, Tactile Systems Technology began marketing the Flexitouch system for the treatment of lymphedema, and later, for chronic edema and non–healing venous ulcers.
The company has developed strong professional relationships with clinical experts, medical research centers and healthcare organizations who share a commitment to the study and treatment of lymphedema. More than 500 insurance companies and government agencies, including Medicare and the VA, now provide reimbursement for the Flexitouch system.
