History
Tactile Systems Technology was founded in 1995 by Irene Waldridge, a certified manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) therapist dedicated to finding an effective way to treat lymphedema at home. After six years in development, Irene launched the Flexitouch system, an innovative, patented medical device based on the principles of MLD therapy. With clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002, Tactile Systems Technology began marketing the Flexitouch system for the treatment of lymphedema, and later, for healing chronic wounds.
The company has developed strong professional relationships with clinical experts, medical research centers and healthcare organizations who share a commitment to the study and treatment of lymphedema. More than 380 insurance companies and government agencies, including Medicare, now provide reimbursement for the Flexitouch system.
